Local Area Information
Middle House is located in Thorpe which is at the southern end of the Peak District National Park, four miles from Ashbourne. Ashbourne has some excellent shops including Sainsburys, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer and Majestic Wines just outside the town, all with good parking.
Local Eateries
The Old Dog pub is the only pub in the village and is a short walk from the house, it reopened in December 2014 after being closed for a couple of years and has under gone a complete refurbishment; the Coach and Horses pub at Fenny Bentley and the Okeover Arms at Mappleton are a short drive or you can have a nice walk there and back on public footpaths. The tea rooms in Tissington serve a lovely afternoon tea
Local Attractions
Dovedale, the famous Stepping Stones (shown in the above photo) and Thorpe Cloud are 15-20 minute walk away down the very pretty little valley of Lyndale.
There are other lovely walks, along the Dove or the Manifold, along the Tissington Trail (the old railway line, for which you can hire bicycles in Ashbourne), or in the hills nearby.
Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock are within easy reach by car, and also Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall (with the Museum of Childhood), Hardwick Hall, Little Moreton Hall, Calke Abbey, Castleton Caves, Crich Tram Museum, Alton Towers, Carsington Water.
A favourite day out is cycling the Manifold Trail from Waterhouses. You can hire bikes from the end of the trail on the A523 leaving Ashbourne and there's a good picnic area or pub at Hulme End.
These are just a few of the many local attractions. You will find a lot of information in the house.
