Directions
This is what we recommend, but your SatNav may not agree!
From North, take A515 Buxton-Ashbourne road. About 16 miles from Buxton, turn right for Thorpe at crossroads (left for Tissington). Follow road to the Old Dog Pub. Go straight on and down the hill. **As the road rises, the house is ahead of you, behind a huge Wellingtonia spruce, with access drive between the road as it swings right and the lane up to the village and church. Turn left at top of drive. Middle House is in the middle with a small light brown gate.
From South, the best route is probably by A515 to Ashbourne. If you come on M1, turn off at Junction 24 and take A50 (for Derby and Stoke) and then A515 at Sudbury. Follow A515 through Ashbourne towards Buxton (signposted for Dovedale). *About a mile beyond Ashbourne turn left, signposted Dovedale, Thorpe, Ilam. Continue until the Old Dog Pub. Turn left, down the hill and follow directions as from ** above.
From East, you will probably take A52 to Ashbourne via Derby. Go through Derby City Centre, not round the ring road, and then A52 to Ashbourne. Outside Ashbourne either take the old road through the town and then A515 towards Buxton, following signs for Dovedale; or follow signs for Dovedale via the by-pass, and then A515. Then as from * above.
From West, take A52 to Ashbourne, then A515 towards Buxton, then as from * above. (You can avoid Ashbourne via Blore and Ilam, or Okeover and Mappleton, but only with a good map).
